Recently the GGPoker network became the leader in the online poker world in terms of player traffic at cash game tables, dethroning for the first time the giant PokerStars -after 15 consecutive years as undisputed leader-. This took place during the month of June 2021 and it was a more than anecdotal fact since the average number of players reached was 5,006, while the red spade remained at 4,981. GGPoker has evolved a lot over time in every way. Having such a high traffic (currently part of the big 3 of online poker) has influenced it to take measures and strengthen security standards.
In this article we focus on analyzing this last point. We explain how Negreanu’s room does to ensure maximum security for its poker players, what are the measures taken and the certificates available. Are you thinking of starting to play at GGPoker? Then you are interested in this article, read on for more information!
GGPoker is among the three largest online poker rooms. The constant addition of users to its network has made it adopt progressive security measures since its inception to date, being considered one of the safest in the world. The latest recognition obtained has been the ISO 27001 certificate. This guarantees that the company has the necessary provisions in place to collect and store customer data in a totally secure manner. The certificate was awarded by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to NSUSLAB Korea, GGPoker’s digital service provider. Its director, Daniel LI, wished to acknowledge the title in a press release in which he stated the following:
“NSUSLAB is proud to have obtained this ISO 27001 certification, as we have always placed information security at the forefront of our efforts […]. We hope the news will further reassure GGPoker, its players, partners and regulators of our commitment to maintaining the security of their information.”
This certification positions the poker entity as one of the most secure today and internationally. This has an impact on the increase in the flow of poker players.
The ISO 27001 certificate is a recognition offered by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to digital companies that comply with the necessary security measures to ensure the collection and storage of user data. This non-governmental entity based in Switzerland sets internationally recognized standards in different industries and businesses in 164 member countries. To date, some 20,000 standard certificates have been awarded since its inception in 1947 for manufactured products, technology, food safety, healthcare, agriculture and, as in this case, the gaming sector. The ISO 27001 certificate upholds three fundamental aspects of information security. These are:
The ISO 27001 certificate therefore demonstrates that GGPoker has the necessary provisions in place to collect and store customer data securely. It certifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continuously improving the information security management system, as can be read in the official ISO documentation. It should be noted that the GGPoker Network (GGPN) is operated by the gaming software provider NSUSLAB Korea who, in addition, powers the GGPoker online poker site and all the skins in its network.
This certificate proves the security of the GGPoker room, however, it does not guarantee that it is immune to cyber-attack threats, just as it happens to major poker networks such as PokerStars. GGPoker has suffered different DDoS attacks over time, the last one being at the WSOP 2020 event where an attempt was made to crash the servers. The problem was quickly fixed, although two bracelet events (namely #33 and #34) were suspended. GGPoker is one of the safest rooms in the world because it has the necessary measures in place to ensure security and combat these types of threats. It is for this reason, among many others, for which it has obtained this well-deserved recognition that certifies what many of us already know.
Another reason why this platform meets the highest security standards is because of its licenses. The GGPoker room is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission. This allows it to operate in regulated markets such as the UK and Germany, among many other countries that take them as valid.
GGPoker is still growing as of today and positioning itself as one of the largest poker rooms online. It has a constant flow of players, important tournaments (such as the WSOP tournaments), high caliber events and positive ratings from experts, as well as international recognitions (the last one, the ISO 27001 certificate). Its traffic increased considerably last year, specifically during the GG Spring Festival 2021 (GGSP). In addition, it has established different high-level partnerships with major brands, such as the World Series of Poker -as we said-. The GGPoker network also holds the record for the largest online poker tournament of all time.
The average number of players in this poker room is 3,000, although it has reached peaks of more than 5,000 players at cash game tables. GGPoker welcomes hundreds of thousands of players every week on its online platform.
